[sticky entry] Sticky: NaNoers, lend me your ears!

Hello! Welcome to [personal profile] ohbirds, a journal for the NaNo novel Birds Beneath The Desert, the high-concept blurb for which is:

Anna Richter is a treasure hunter on post-Apocalyptic Earth, turning a profit by leading worshippers of the Old World on expeditions for broken down tech and ruined pieces of the past. On an expedition past Darwin’s Partition, into the Ash Deserts that are rumored to house monsters and a hundreds-of-years-old curse, Richter and her party become ensnared by the magic of the Lost People, pulled into a fantasy world hiding just beneath the surface of the deserts.

And we hope you enjoy your stay. :D

So. Sometimes I do weird things when preparing for NaNoWriMo. Part of which is drawing maps. City, world, region, whatever. Whenever I try to do this by hand it becomes a fucking mess. So instead I do it on GIMP, where it is only somewhat of a mess. And, uh, pretty humorously unprofessional. Like this attempt at a Birds region map:

So, yes. That is the kind of thing I am doing to gear up for NaNo. In addition to the 14 pages of handwritten notes I already have for the story. (24 days to go, Christ, this is going to be ridiculous. /o\) If I don't finish this year, it will not be for lack of preparation. In fact, I have a feeling I'm going to have far more information than I need. But NaNo has taught me that it's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.
